Video Taster

As I promised, I created a short video to give you a better idea of what we've been up to on the site.

There's only just over a week to go before we finally launch the site so we're busily making sure that the content is word perfect and that all the interaction software is working and tested.

I'll be in touch later this week with some more information about the site.

Bye for now.

PFT Introduction Site

I thought it would be relevant to have a presentation site which would act as an introduction to what we're doing. Click here to take a look.

In a few days I'll have a YouTube video of the new site to give you more of a taster of whats to come.

We're still on schedule, so let's hope it stays that way!!!

Bye for now.

What the site will do!

I set up the Profit From Technology site to provide us (and you as an example) with the most effective systemised marketing process possible. The site shows what's achieveable with the latest technology and really how the bulk of what we do is all inter-twined.

What I mean is that all site visitors are potential customers, so any automated system that can handle their experience - starting with a website, can save your company, not just you as the director, loads of time.

So, the more you can place online the better. What's more, when the site is launched, I think it will have a big impact on your perception of marketing and any preconceived ideas you might have about the costs involved - I'm all for anything that's genuinely free!

If you're serious about developing your business over the next few years, bear in mind the old adage - work smarter, not harder. I've said it before, selling or creating revenue in whatever business is a numbers game, but no one ever seemed to know how to manipulate the numbers - until now.

Our Motto: If it's not making you money, it must be called furniture!
So, if it can't be proven to make you money - don't buy it!

How we're setting it up.

We've set the site up so it's like a project you'd carry out and reference resource at the same time.

You could start at the beginning and work through it by yourself or you could get a member of staff to do it. Its a step-by-step program that will / should / could change your business forever. I've been doing this for 25 years and I'm completly sold!!!

Because of the way the content is set up, you can also dip in and out when you need to.

I'll write back soon. We've nearly got the first part of the promotional site finished, so I'll let everyone know when it's posted up and ready to have a look at.

Bye.

May Bank Holiday

I know, I know, spend time with the children, take some time off, but this is infectious. So much so that I thought I'd corrupted the whole database.

Take action - get an automated backup for everything on the web server. Now, even that's integrated with the admin controls - phew! I had a warm moment.

I will now stop. Take out the dog and chill!

Learning online!

Most people might be under the impression that when a website is set up you simply use the technology or software you're used to, like Dreamweaver, Flash or Frontpage - Not us!

We opted for a CMS product (which stands for content management system) and it's amazing. We had to learn from the ground up, but not the actual software code as it worked "out of the box". We can now make changes and edit our site from any PC anywhere in the world, even on the beach!

You have just got to take a look at this site when it's ready. If you thought having a website was too much effort, too much money or simply a waste of time, then this will knock your socks off!

I should be selling web site software not a business portal!!! It will definitely be worth the wait.

Speak to you soon,

Regards

Site Launch Date - 20th June 2008

Well, we decided to set a date and work to it...

What a project - we decided to make up a wishlist of the actual features a site like this should have. We got a bit carried away, but in the end it boiled down to it having to meet the expectations of CEO's who were always pushed for time.

I can't wait to get this up and running.

The foundations for the site

Hi,

It's been a couple of weeks since we decided to go down the web route and we've made some fantastic headway. I've found the software and we have begun structuring the foundations for the portal. It took six months to write the book so it should be quite straightforward getting the content on to the site.

I'll write back soon.

Here we go!

After getting the thumbs up last month from a large publisher, we were really excited about getting the book published, but one thing bugged me. Once we signed on the dotted line, we would have to wait about six months before the book would be published and then embark on the promotion.

All in all, not a bad situation to be in, but the fact that the technology industry is evolving and that new products and services always need reviewing, I started to think about an alternative and what it was I really wanted to achieve.

Having tinkered with websites for a few years, I realised that creating a web portal for businesses was the only way forward and that the current web technologies would really suit what I wanted to achieve - i.e. a dynamic and evolving resource that business owners and directors could refer to.

I know that directors, owner managers and committed staff want information, help and guidance, but DO NOT want to be instructed about the intricacies of how everything works.

I/you, want the information (jargon free and to the point) to be instantly accessible and in a format that we can use to direct and instruct members of our staff or external companies. Another useful byproduct of this type of information would be to make sure that suppliers can't pull the wool over our eyes and carry on regardless assuming that we know what they're talking about and accept everything they say.

All I want to do is get on with my job, I don't need to become an expert in someone else's field to run my business or buy a piece of equipment.

So, the idea to create a web portal for businesses and in particular business owners was formed.

I'll let you know how I got on in my next post.

Bye for now.

Welcome to the Profit from Technology blog

Hi,

My blog is about the germination of an idea. From writing a few helpful documents for customers to the emergence of a number of requests to write a book that encapsulated business technology and business process through to the creation of a business portal that can change the way a business functions.

Anyone who has decided to write a book I guess first starts off with an idea of words that relates to a given subject or even just a feeling. You can see it in your minds eye, a bit like a chemistry experiment watching gases rolling over each other, like clouds getting larger and larger.

Eventually the first word is thrown down (the cement analogy) and then the document begins to be constructed (now the bricks). In the case of Profit from Technology it was a case of having a burning desire demonstrate to companies that technology should make money but no one else was talking in the same terms.

Having worked in the technology industry for nearly 25 years I can safely say that the approach has never changed!
